Mateo Mblem was born and raised in the slums of Newark, N.J. where statistics have proven that if you’re still alive and of ‘drinking’ age, you deserve that drink! Mateo Mblem was fathered by The Tip Tops’ sound of ‘Smitty’ (father/ RnB musician) and other band members, with roots in Soul/R n B and Blues of the 70’s. Naturally Mateo Mblem developed an ear for music at an early age by growing up in a home surrounded by blaring soul music sounds from Bob Marley to Prince and the soulful ambience of the likes of Barry White.
Mateo Mblem has performed at countless venues and events in Europe which accidentally catapulted his star status. These performances occurred during a time that proved to be one of his darker periods while serving a military term overseas. However, his struggle inspired the sounds we hear today.
