Spruit is an experimental musician from Alphen a/d Rijn (NL) whose turntablism work is all about extremely fast and radically cut-up electro-acoustic high energy driven music. It’s the 21st century high tech abstract Rock ‘n Roll that reflects the information overload that is the world around us.


Around 2004/2005 I started searching for my own sound, creating tracks build by ridiculous amounts of sound snippets that I then used to improvise with on my digital turntables. Sampling my own sounds and reworking them in an extreme fashion gave me ultimate freedom. The result only being limited by my imagination. The turntable took this freedom of sound even further allowing me the use these minutiously built tracks in an more interactive and hands on way giving my music the high energy and gut feeling that I was looking for.


I am also active in the duo De Haan/Spruit together with Michiel de Haan. Here I get to show the more contemplating side of myself in improvisations with guitar and turntable.

In 2008 I performed solo on the stages of DNK (Amsterdam) and Merlyn (Nijmegen). With De Haan/Spruit I played in Tag (Den Haag), Worm (Rotterdam), DNK (Amsterdam) and on the festival ZXZW (Tilburg).

At the beginning of 2009 I started working on my forth CD 'ON / OFF'. In these new recording I strived to get things more heavier and more layered, taking it even further than everything before.


Although 'ON/OFF' got good reviews, there was always a note on how exhausting the music was.

This felt right at the time I created the music but with this new work I wanted to do more than just blow people of there socks...

After 'ON/OFF' I wanted to do something minimal with more structure and so I started working on 'Patterns'.

I used the same ideas and approaches as on the release 'Hollands Licht' with De Haan/Spruit.
‘Patterns’ is about shorter and longer cycles that are repetitive but never are the same as they intermingle and shift along each other.

In all I hope I have created an adventurous piece with time to breathe without losing the drive and rock ’n roll feeling.
