Queen & Paul Rodgers is a recent collaboration consisting of the remaining members of Queen and legendary Free / Bad Company vocalist Paul Rodgers who took to the stage with guitarist Brian May, drummer Roger Taylor and backing musicians. The collaboration toured over Europe and North America/Canada; performing to hundreds of thousands of fans.
The addition of Paul Rodgers is a controversial one amongst Queen fans, as some believe that it is disrespectful to the late singer Freddie Mercury. Others say that Rodgers brings a rockier edge to the songs, which works especially well on the Queen-tracks written by Brian May such as Hammer To Fall, Tie Your Mother Down and Dragon Attack. However before embarking on the tour, Rodgers verified that he didn't want to replace Mercury or try to sing like him; he wanted to give the songs his own style.
Singing a mixture of Queen and Free / Bad Company songs, Rodgers fitted straight in with May and Taylor, who also took the microphone at different points in the setlist to add their own magic to classic Queen songs.
One live album has been released by Queen & Paul Rodgers, called Return of the Champions. Fall 2008 will see the band back in action, with a new studio album entitled The Cosmos Rocks featuring 14 brandnew tracks plus a worldtour which will hit Europe and South America in 2008 - Japan and USA will most likely follow in 2009.
