Yellowstars were a power pop band formed in Durham, North Carolina shortly after the turn of the century.

The group was conceived by songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Tom Alexander and bass-player Kenny Lai over conversations during heated table tennis matches in the break room at the Dorothea Dix psychiatric hospital. Chris Reynolds (guitar) and Andrew Garrison (drums) were quickly recruited and they began playing about in Durham and Chapel Hill.

Their sole album release, 2002's Rainbow Kisses, is a collection of melodic, concise, sometimes acerbic pop songs. One reviewer described the record as "sound-literate, intelligent, well-written pop, with a hint of keyboards, a dash of Britishness, and a whole heapin’ of wit".
