unity pulse is an electronic one-person music project formed in 2002 by Gerardo Sanchez in Florida, United States. The name comes directly from its sole member desire of trying to transmit his emotions around the concept of the need of harmony between people and nature, by means of rhythmical sonic beats. unity pulse produces a spatial, robotic and strangely futuristic (and at the same time retrospective) kind of music, which responds to melodic and rhythmic synthesizer-driven electronic sounds and textures that intend to create a powerful, but relaxed and positive atmosphere for the listener. As proposed in its own name, unity pulse is in a continuous search for trying to fuse harmony and modular rhythms as means to remember the importance of achieving a state of forming a complete and pleasing whole as mankind. unity pulse's ultimate musical aim is to establish a balanced ensemble of electronic and acoustic sounds, to produce beauty of form, harmony and expression of emotion, recapturing the roots of electronic, new wave and post-punk musical movements within a contemporary world reality, in order to refresh basic human consciousness.
Since its foundation, the discography of unity pulse was conceptualized as a four-stages project, releasing one long play album per phase. The first album is called "impulse", it was privately released in 2004 and it includes four rescued songs from the formative years of the project (1997-2002), influenced by the Swedish and German electro-pop that was emerging at that moment, and ten more pieces composed after 2002 tending more to retro synth-pop and electronic (recalling Kraftwerk, early Depeche Mode or OMD type of work) with a modern approach to programming and sounds and sampling mixture. The second album is called "force", it was also privately released in 2006 and its main characteristic is the inclusion of digitally sampled and processed acoustic sounds and melodies, coming from guitar and bass instruments, as well as female vocals (performed by Sofia Torres, Gerardo Sanchez's wife). Although this second album maintains the basic spirit of the project, due to the inclusion of these new elements, it seems to have certain similarity with other independent contemporary artists type of work, such as Fischerspooner, Ms. John Soda or even The Postal Service. The third album, "theory", is currently being written and recorded and it is planned to be released during 2008, and "voice", the fourth and last one, is planned to be produced by 2010. These last two albums are pretended to establish a more clear and defined own personality of the project, that could better characterize unity pulse's work in a more mature and transcendental way.
Currently, unity pulse does not perform live, and for the moment its music material can only be heard through web music social networks and radio station services like Last.fm and MySpace. The printed albums of its music are handled by an independent record label, Rhea Records, and can only be purchased or freely obtained directly through unity pulse's official web site at www.unitypulse.com or Rhea Records (both, currently under construction).
Gerardo Sanchez (born 1966, Mexico City, Mexico) is a songwriter, musician and singer of his own compositions, professionally dedicated to the Information Technologies industry. During the early years, back in the 80's, he started playing keyboards and experimenting with drum machines and computer music sequencers programming jointly with Ricardo Portillo (founder member of Nihil Obstat and Inner Force). Although they never formed a band together, jointly started composing and playing some songs, as well as learning abut the MIDI standard by their own means and music composition with a private teacher, Darian Stavans, who's classical music work is well respected in Mexico and some other places around the world. As part of his learning curve, Gerardo Sanchez wrote the essay "Musical Instruments Digital Network" as a final thesis project for obtaining his Computer Science degree at college, where he had the chance to apply the benefits of technology as a tool to create music. During his formative years, he founded diálog, a Mexican band also formed by Alejandro Prieto (founder member of a_robot) and Adrian Matsumoto. diálog was active during the 90's and produced diverse musical pieces that responded to a kind of electronic new wave, with some elements of tecno-pop and others which created environments of classical structures with synthesized chorus. For approximately five years, the band performed live in different venues in Mexico City, co-participating in shows where important international bands like In The Nursery from England, Love Is Colder Than Death from Germany and The Wake from the United States performed too. In 2000, he moved to Florida, U.S., where he founded unity pulse in early 2002. During his life, he has been influenced, first, by the pioneers of electronic music, and later on by the punk, post-punk, tecno-pop and new wave movements. During the 80's and 90's, he had the chance to listen to a vast amount of different bands coming from other different genres of electronic music, including synth-pop, industrial, new beat, goth, ambient and trance, as well as others with neo-classic tendencies, where digital sampling impacted the possibilities of creating electronic music using classical instruments type of sounds, like violins, pianos and other cord- and air-based ones. All this helped the artist to build a personal music preference for some specific genres or particular elements from each one of them. Currently, he continues residing in Florida and keeps trying to learn more about music every day. He also has an alternate experimental project with his brother, Alfredo Sanchez, in which he plays drums and some keyboards, where improvisation and retro guitar voices and structures represent the most important characteristics of their compositions. He continues working on unity pulse’s new material, recording and releasing music up to date. Read more on Last.fm.
