うみくん (Romanized: Umikun) is a utaite and artist from Japan whose music is primarily EDM, but does include other genres. He currently resides in Tokyo, runs Uminpo, and consistently works alongside Vocaloid producer Toshihiro.
At an unknown time he graduated from a music school, and in 2014 began posting song covers to Niconico Douga, a popular Japanese video sharing website, with his cover of the Frozen song Let It Go becoming a hit on the website.
2015 and onward saw him begin his career as a solo artist, releasing most songs during this period under the name UMI☆KUUN, also during this time he participated in a variety of commissioned and collaborative works, such as being in the 3-person unit Normcore (where he was known as 'Fümi' in the unit), and producing songs for Nicalis' Crystal Crisis, and Tezuka Productions' Young Black Jack, among other series.
In 2020, he became independent and released the single Anthracite, and from this release onward, his songs dropped the UMI☆KUUN label, instead now just being attributed to Umikun.
In 2021, he began the 'Umikun Creative Project 2021', a plan for 2021 to release a song each season, with Hater Girl being the first song he released during this period, with it being notable for being the second song he has made using the VOCALOID software. The second song being ONE, a collaboration between him and the band Rhythmic Toy World, and the third and fourth songs being Chameleon and Downer Boy , Downer Boy being his first song using the CEVIO software. In October, it was announced that his first album will release in December titled 'Empty Melody' that will include the songs featured in the Umikun Creative Project 2021, as well as original songs not yet released.
