Born in Oklahoma City in 1974, Kevin was always, it seems, around music. Raised around a lot of great guitar playing, Kevin was immersed from an early age in blues, country, rock and pop music. Not until his teenage years did Kevin begin to utilize these influences to begin creating music. Living in rural northwest Oklahoma didn't exactly offer a littany of opportunties for Kevin to play with other musicians. Eventually, however, Kevin formed a classic rock/original band with IMPOSTERS member Davis Engle and the late Don Alto handling Bass Guitar chores. TIERNA , as the band became known began to play regionally and gain somewhat of a following. But just as things got going, Kevin left to attend college at the University of Oklahoma in Norman.
Following several months of getting acclimated with the Oklahoma City music scene, Kevin found former FISSION bandmates Matt Whitmore (Vocals) and Craig Roberts (Drums) through an ad in a local newspaper. "These guys had started a band called LYASIN RAIL. Their guitarist had decided to move on to different things. The reason why escapes me...anyway, I came in and they had bass, drums and vocals to about 10 songs. They basically let me fill in the guitar parts independent of what the previous guitarist had done. It was great, they really gave me the space to be creative and we came up with some really great music." After adding Tommy Sensabaugh on Rhythm Guitar, LYASIN RAIL began to play around town. "The Oklahoma City bombing occured right around this time. We played a lot of tribute shows following the event." Shortly thereafter, LYASIN RAIL fired their bass player and a combination of external influences forced the demise of the RAIL. Two songs survive from this period, recorded at CARUMBO Studios in Norman. UNIVERSAL COMMUNICATION was a crowd pleaser that was put on tape shortly after Robert (Bass) and Tommy had left the band. Kevin handles Guitar, Bass and Background Vocals on this cut. This song got sporadic airplay on KATT FM 100.5 by DJ Greg Zoobeck. Backing UNIVERSAL COMMUNICATION was HERE I AM. All but Drums and Vocals were cut by Kevin in early 1994, prior to joining LYASIN RAIL. Drums on this cut were graciously provided by producer Mike McCarty. Both songs are available on LYASIN RAIL's site on MP3.com.
Flash forward to 2001. "I had gotten CHROMA KEY's DEAD AIR FOR RADIOS right after it came out and I was living in Norfolk, Virginia. I have to admit, after a couple of listens, I wasn't all that impressed. Right after I moved to Newport, Rhode Island, I gave it another chance and it didn't leave my CD player for weeks. Anyway, I bought YOU GO KNOW and realized I could use my computer to make music. So I started with GO TO BED to see if I could learn to use the software. Shortly thereafter, I started on GIRL WITH A GUN which was very CHROMA KEY influenced." Up next was TWENTYSOMETHING which is, arguably, the defining song for Kevin's foray into Pop Electronica.
Summer of '01 saw a move to San Diego, California and the change in vibe can be distinctly heard in the lyrics of SOFT UNDERNEATH. HSING HSING IS ALONE NOW is an instrumental developed by Kevin during a year and a half living in Sasebo, Japan.
Currently, Kevin is living in Fairfax, Virginia working Film Soundtracks, a solo recording project, and with the band 'Overrun".
