Originally from La Plata, MD (a Washington, D.C. suburb), Randy began playing guitar at 11. He grew up listening to the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and Jimi Hendrix, but later discovered a love for jazz and studied with Baltimore guitar great Carl Filipiak. In 2005, Runyon attended the Berklee College of Music on scholarship. He released his first CD "ARRIVAL" on Art of Life Records.
He has performed with Terri Lyne Carrington (Blue Note, NYC & Tokyo) and the Iridium (NYC) and with Tiger Okoshi (Kimmel Center, Philadelphia & Sapporo Jazz Festival, Japan), as well as with Bob Mintzer, Randy Brecker, Joe Lovano, Mark Walker, and others. He has also played at the Thailand Jazz Conference in Bangkok, IAJE in New York, and the International Trumpet Guild in Alberta, Canada. Randy is a member of the Alan Baylock Jazz Orchestra, performing at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC.
