The Rough and Tumble met when Mallory Graham found a notebook on a double-decker bus. When she opened it there were pages and pages of words from sad, old country songs, to-do lists with nothing crossed out, pages torn from church hymnals, minor league baseball tickets, self-written wedding vows, a Number 1 China take-out menu and a copy of the declaration of independence with all the vowels crossed out in red ink. She saw Scott Tyler sitting in the corner of the bus drinking coffee and she asked if it was his. “Yes,” he said, even though it wasn’t. “Do you remember the melodies?” he asked. “Yes,” she said, even though she didn’t.

The Rough & Tumble released their first EP, "We Sing In Your House When You're Not There...we even ordered pizza" in December 2011. Recorded and mixed by Chris Leonard at Iconoclast Recording Studios in East Nashville, "We Sing In Your House..." is a fun and somber homegrown occasion, seeking a balance between hope and despair.

"We Don't Believe In Monsters, Anymore...but would you please check under our beds?" was also recorded at Iconoclast and was mixed by Tommy Carnes. It was released in May, 2012.

For their third EP, "For You, Now That You're Married...and for me, too" (September 2012) The Rough & Tumble took over a 3 story house just outside Nashville that Mallory happened to be house-sitting for the weekend. Engineered and mixed by Tommy Carnes, "For You..." sees The Rough & Tumble stretching their wings and playing every instrument/making all the noises on the record themselves. (Well, except for the background noise on Porcelain Figurines, which Tommy camped out undercover for three days at a fruit packing warehouse to record).

In 2013, The Rough & Tumble started a year-long project, "The Rough & Tumble's Holiday Awareness Campaign" in which they write, record and release two songs a month based around specific holidays in order to make the masses aware of all the celebration days they have neglected and also of the great sadness that accompanies great joy. Recorded and mixed by Nolan Rossi in East Nashville.
