Human Hearts Lyrics

I wanna put the band back together
For human hearts write fairy tales for free
So dust off all your denim and your leather
Like Andy said the birds will fall from trees

Tommy worked at Harry's helicopters
Fixing choppers for the man
In borrowed boots we slid down stairs
Bled icy hoots of never caring laughter

So brush your pretty hair
('cause you'll lose it don't you know)
And make your little bed
(for your girlfriend Judy Rose)
You'll never be alone
If you're always on, always on the road

I wanna put the band back together
(always on the road)
Press some discs and 45s and pins
(please please come on home)
So dust off all your denim and your leather
(always on the road)
And go on singing naughty through the wind

The broken rings collected there
Such smoky things we breathed out every night
The river rose while we came down
With bloody noses
Running on her gown

So brush your pretty hair
('cause you'll lose it don't you know)
And make your little bed
(for your girlfriend Judy Rose)
You'll never be alone
If you're always on, always on the road

Let's try to put the band back together
(always on the road)
For human hearts write fairy tales for free
(please please come on home)
We'll pick a fight and argue about whether
(always on the road)
Andy said we'd be forever free

Nightlands is the recording project of Philadelphia's Dave Hartley, a bassist and multi-instrumentalist with The War on Drugs. Forget the Mantra, the first and only official release, began as Hartley's attempt to record and archive his dreams by using a simple bedside tape recorder, but quickly ballooned into an epic, multi-year project incorporating dense vocal arrangements and diverse instrumentation. Hyper-personal life extracts are also sprinkled throughout, including family audio heirlooms and sonically-altered treatments of past, incomplete recording projects. Forget the Mantra will be available November 9th via Secretly Canadian. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
