I Can't Make It Alone Lyrics

Written by gerry goffin & carole king
Main voice: susan
Released on 'continental drifters' (1995)

Now you know me
And you know how proud I am
And what I'm gonna tell you now
It won't be easy to say.

Before I left your side
Ooh, I was so happy there
And I've been so lonely
Since I've been away.

Hoo, baby, well I tried and I know
I can't make it alone
It's such a hard way to go
I just can't make it alone
Cause there's somethin' in my soul (in my soul)
It'll always (always) lead me back to you.

What can I say now
Well, sorry's just not good enough
And I wouldn't blame you if you hurt me now
The way I hurt you then.

Oh, then who am I to turn to
Oh baby, I am beggin' you
Won't you reach out for my dyin' soul
And let me live again.

Hoo, baby, well I tried and I know
I can't make it alone
It's such a hard way to go
I just can't make it alone
Cause there's somethin' in my soul (in my soul)
It will always (always) lead me back to you.

I just can't make it by myself
I just can't make it by myself
I just can't make it by myself.

Cause baby, and I tried and I know
I can't make it alone
And it's such a hard way to go
I just can't make it alone
Well, there's somethin' in my soul
It'll always lead me back to you.

Oh, please help me (please help me)
Well, you know how I need you (you know I need you)
And sayin' that I need you
Well, I just can't make it by myself.

(just can't make it by myself)
I just can't make it on my own
(just can't make it on my own)
Ooh, I just can't make it by myself.

The Continental Drifters an American rock band, formed in Los Angeles, California in 1991 and dissolved in New Orleans, Louisiana about a decade later. Though the line-up changed several times, at one point the band comprised a kind of college-rock/indie-rock/power-pop supergroup, including as it did Peter Holsapple of the dBs, Mark Walton of The Dream Syndicate, Vicki Peterson of The Bangles and Susan Cowsill of The Cowsills.
