Luigi Attademo is an Italian classical guitarist born in Naples in 1972. He received his guitar performance degree with the highest marks in 1992, from Turin’s G. Verdi Conservatory.

He studied with the guitarist-composer Angelo Gilardino from 1990 to 1993 at the Accademia Superiore L. Perosi in Biella, where he received another degree with the highest marks. He has attended many seminars and master classes with, among others, Oscar Ghiglia, Dusan Bogdanovic, Tilman Hoppstock, David Russell, Thomas Müller-Pering.He was awarded in several national and international competitions, including: Concorso Internazionale di Interpretazione di Musica per chitarra del XX secolo in Lagonegro, Italy (second prize, 1992),Concours International d’Exécution Musicale (CIEM) in Geneva (third prize, 1995) and the Concorso Internazionale De Bonis in Cosenza, Italy (first prize, 1998). He has been invited as a guest in several festivals and he has given the first performance of many contemporary works (Angelo Gilardino’s Concerto for Guitar and Orchestra Leçons de Ténèbres, or the Four Studies for guitar by Alessandro Solbiati). He has also played on Italian publi Radio3 RAI and Rete Toscana Classica.

He is holder of a Doctorate in Philosophy with a dissertation on musical interpretation. He has also contributed to several specialised magazines, as Guitart, Seicorde, Suonare News, Il Giornale della Musica, Filosofia, he published the book about music and interpretation “Musica e interpretazione: conoscenza e soggettività nell’esecuzione musicale”, Trauben, Torino 2002.

He has worked in the archive of the Andrés Segovia’s Foundation (Linares- Spain), cataloguing manuscripts, discovering unknown manuscripts of important composers, such as Jaume Pahissa, Alexandre Tansman, Gaspar Cassadò and others. After the discovery of new compositions in the Segovia’s Archive, he gave the first performance of several works like the Sonatina by Cyril Scott (Alessandria, September 2001), the first manuscript of Suite Compostelana and Cancion y Danza n.10 by Federico Mompou, the Quatre pièces by Lennox Berkeley, the Thème et variations by Fernande Peyrot, and others. He recorded a CD dedicated to Scarlatti’s Sonatas in 1999, and a CD with Bach transcriptions in 2000, both published by the Italian label Niccolò. A new CD, including the Variations on Folias theme, was published in 2001. He also recorded a CD including the most important Segovia Archive’s works (published by the Italian magazine Seicorde, 2002). He composed music for theatre (Il canto della Tenebra, Berlin 2004, dedicated to Italian poet Dino Campana) and a piece for guitar and tape Erbarme dich, mein Gott (2004). Read more on Last.fm.
