Formed in 2002, the trio is composed of Brandon Moses on vocals and guitar, Luke Stewart on bass and saxophone and Michael Andrew Harris on drums. This old fashioned yet Pinback/Devendra Banharty-y porch music is awash with distant vocals dripping over jazzy rhythms that give Laughing Man a sound that hearkens to its roots, but still manages to sound authentic and fresh. With lyrics like, “I hope it’s not too late for my homies” soulfully sung over lilting guitar, the band playfully pushes genres and ends up with a product that, at the very least, is not trying to be anything but itself.
