Doll & the Kicks are the firecracker of new British music. Fresh from this year’s Glastonbury Festival, where they played BBC’s Introducing stage, the Brighton-born 4-piece sparkle with indie-charged anthems and razor-sharp commercial acumen. The band – lead singer Doll, and her Kicks, Matt (guitar), Chris (drums) & Olivier (bass) – have toured the UK for 18-months, graduating from the Brighton music boom to become this year’s ultimate ones-to-watch. Influenced by artists that include: Kate Bush, Cocteau Twins, The Knife, Blondie & Bloc Party, their dazzling, serrated sound is the real deal. A tour de force of incandescent electric guitars, femme-fatal vocals and rousing urban roar, it’s irresistible, forward-thinking indie-pop with the ghost of Martha & The Muffins - and then some. Hailing from Liverpool, London, Buckinghamshire and Surrey, the band met at BIMM (Brighton’s Institute of Modern Music) in 2005, where – uninspired - they forged their own brand of sonic youth. Neither bound by musical restrictions nor the abstract idea of being cool, Doll & the Kicks sit comfortably on the wave of new radio-playlist potential.
