Brought up in London, U.K, Sweet Melody started singing in the church since the age of 12. From a very early age she has had an inclination towards music, in fact you could say she was born into it. Her father, uncles, cousins and other relatives across the globe have been and are currently pursuing music as singers, songwriters, musicians and producers. Her formative years observing relatives and friends gave her invaluable insight into the world of music and being brought up in a musical family further heightened her inner passions to pursue a career in music.
Her first venture was with her father’s gospel band ‘Thĕ Gospel Minstrels, before going on to sing with The New Life Assembly Choir and the New Testament Assembly choirs in London. She later went on to form a trio with her siblings singing gospel songs with 3 part harmonies throughout the churches. Since going their separate ways, Sweet Melody has not allowed the flame that blazed inside her to be quenched, but has continued her career as a soloist and has further developed her songwriting abilities.
Since returning to her home country Jamaica, Sweet Melody found that her love for reggae music was rekindled, with the heavy bass lines playing on the streets all the time. She has been strongly influenced with the music and message of Bob Marley and other prophetic Jamaican artists like Luciano, whose songs were an inspiration to her. Her Jamaican roots have contributed significantly to the creativity which can be heard in the songs she writes. Building on the culture of her people, Sweet Melody is now using this to sing and write songs. Her forthcoming EP release is a testament to her singing and songwriting abilities.
