Design the Skyline is a deathcore band from Corpus Christi, Texas. The band formed in 2007 and originally went under the name Extra Large Kids, with all of the original members being high school friends. Shortly after forming, the band would release a demo titled Galactical Celebrations, garnering attention on Myspace and forming a sizable fanbase.
In 2010, the band would change their name to Design The Skyline, which symbolized the band's ambitions to create their own limits and to be their authentic selves. The band would record a music video for their infamous song Surrounded By Silence, which was recorded and released in 2011. The single peaked the interest of post-hardcore band The Bunny The Bear, who would later showcase the video to Victory Records and get the band signed. The signing, however, was met with extreme scrutiny and hostility directed towards both the band and the label.
Originally, the band planned on releasing an album titled Synthetic Cities in 2011, however the album was abandoned and never released officially. The band would quickly abandon their spazzy, experimental roots shortly after and develop a more standard metalcore/deathcore sound for their debut record, Neveah, which released on August 16, 2011. Around this time, the band was facing many line-up changes, eventually leading the band to disband on July 26, 2013, but not before releasing a single titled Deathgaze on May 14. The breakup was short lived, with the band reforming in 2014 and releasing three singles over the span of 3 years: Rebirth in 2015, Lotus in 2016, and In Dreams in 2018.
Aside from a Wax Vessel pressing of Galactical Celebrations in 2021, the band would remain inactive for 7 years. This would change on October 16th 2025, whenthe band announced their return with three original members; Daniel Garza, Matt Ryan and Dean Ramirez, along with releasing their newest single titled Beckoning. The single, featuring a technical and melodic deathcore sound, was met with highly positive reactions and quickly became the bands best recieved song yet. However, confusion would arise after it was revealed that Eric Azure, one of the bands former members, had his own plans with the band and locked the previous members out of the social media pages This has technically lead to there being two active bands under the Design The Skyline name, with both sides claiming that they're the official and only band under the name. Facebook posts later alleged that Eric was being difficult to work with and had profited off the Wax Vessel release while Daniel hadn't earned anything off the release.
The two would reconcile, with Eric changing his band's name to Dreams To Eternity while Daniel's band kept the Design The Skyline name. Both Eric and Daniel are on good terms. Read more on Last.fm.
