Wandering Soul - primarily consisting of the cellist Alban Gerhardt, whose plucks and sundry emanations are distorted, warped and otherwise mangled/manipulated by Peter Kuhlmann (also known as Pete Namlook - 'Koolman' backwards, based on how his name is actually pronounced) - is one of the three records on the presumably defunct 'Yesterday & Tomorrow' sub-label of the mythic Fax +49-69/450464 label, which specializes in ambient techno and trance, in all its variegated permutations.
However, Y&T - and thus Wandering Soul - have little to do with the electronica idiom. Rather than being chill-out, the music is more mood-setting, subtle, quietly evocative. You can sit on a chair, staring at the wall, and take it in without perturbance - it's that kind of record. The compositions themselves are largely by Gerhardt, but Namlook takes credit for making something beautiful somehow more so, and all the more beguiling and mercurial.
