I was only twelve when I felt an intense desire to get a guitar on my hands and play my first melodies. So I decided to enroll to a local conservatory and take lessons for classical guitar. My passion was relentless and the pleasure I was receiving from playing pieces of romanticists and classicists almost hedonic. Basically, this was a period of awakening, in which I began to take shape as a musician. It was already clear that music would be a basic aspect of my personality for many years to come.

Following the years of adolescence my preferences in music became harder and my interest, as it was expected, shifted from classic to electric guitar. After buying my first Stratocaster, I left behind the performing nature of classic guitar and began having a more creative and collective approach to music. We gathered up with some friends, with whom we shared the same passion for music, we formed a rock band and begin playing cover songs. Soon we made our first attempts to write our own songs, which later gave us the opportunity to make our first live performances. One band succeeded the other, most important of all being the death-metal band “Ωpertum”. The fellow-musicians and our preferences in music genres were taking turns thus creating an incessant buzz and a blissful vibe.

With my move to Athens I was forced to leave my fellow-musicians from Thessaloniki behind, thus closing another chapter of my music course. After quite a few fruitless attempts to enter the Athenian network of musicians I ended up experimenting with music software on my PC and replacing musicians with prerecorded loops and samples. To my big surprise I found out that I was enthused over music technology. Without realizing it I had left my guitar behind and began playing hours and hours with virtual synthesizers and drum-machines. As it seemed another chapter had began one that was more personal and paricular. One day I came up with a name so as to refer to the tracks I was procucing, that name was “Aftofono” (Greek wordplay with the words self luminous and sound, voice)

After one year of experimentation and acquaintance with music software I finished my first “home-made” demo “Ta koritsia pou tripane to laimo tous” (Greek for Girls that pierce their necks). The production of this demo was made just by using a PC of primitive technology. It didn’t receive wide acceptance, although it managed to bring me into the light as a composer of electronic music. My second attempt to present a complete demo came a year later under the title “Syndromo egoetias” (Greek wordplay for syndrome of self-fascination). The compositions and the production have been clearly improved still the distribution and promotion were intentionally limited. This second demo gave me the opportunity to have my first concert exclusively with my own compositions. The concert took place in the Small Music Theatre with the contribution of fellow-musicians.

More than four years had to pass for my next step. During that period I had the opportunity to see things from a distance and redefine my stance and my expectations from composing. At the same time I was working on various compositions and familiarizing myself even more with music software. Finally I chose ten compositions to constitute my latest demo “Intellectronica”, which is my most complete piece of work as Aftofono. A considerable development that came as a result of Intellectronica’s promotion was Kant-dance.com, which is a non-profit website. The function of this website is the presentation and promotion of Aftofono as well as the work of fellow artists.

At the moment I carry on composing and I occasionally take lessons on electric guitar. I also give concerts every now and then and participate in projects with fellow musicians, dancers and actors.
