Formed in February 2007, Gate 1 consists of: TC on Vocals, Nik Blonder on Drums, Mike Murphy on Bass, and Barry Seiver on Guitar. Their hook-driven melodies are reminiscent of Velvet Revolver, and Foo Fighters.
After seeing Gate 1 perform, Jay Nedry, the owner and booking agent of JAXX nightclub in Springfield, VA immediately booked the band to open for national acts Joey Belladonna, King’s X, and Kix. Jay holds his doors open for Gate 1 to do many more shows in the future.
On June 20, 2008, Gate 1 shared the bill with regional heavyweights, Funny Money at JAXX nightclub. Following this performance, entertainment columnist Lauren Monaco of the "Frederick News-Post," interviewed the band for a cover story in the "Next 72 hours/Entertainment" section of the paper. The article was published on July 10, 2008. The following is an excerpt from that article.
“Gate 1 is a band with an interesting conglomeration of diverse, loud and proud personalities. Their passion for music is evident in their eagerness to perform, as well as their ability to have a genuine loud, rowdy, rock n' roll time.
They are an asset to the local music scene, being that they bring back a fresh attitude and personality to their music. It has a nonchalant, sort-of comfort and coolness, reminiscent of the guitar sounds that came out of the early '90s emergence of the alternative-metal scene. Some of their songs have early punk influences, as well as a heavy metal aspect countering it. They draw from many influences and styles, everything from jazz to blues experience, and guitar solos with funky undertones.
Seiver describes their sound as ‘modern rock in concept, almost punk in delivery, classic in tone and instrumental application, simplicity in structure, hooky, enjoyable hard rock 'n' roll.’
Despite their short time playing together, the band has a tight, rock 'n' roll sound.”
In April, 2008 Gate 1 released their debut album "Maximum Pumping" which was produced entirely by the band. Currently Gate 1 is booking shows in support of their album, with the goal of having their songs heard by as many people as possible. Read more on Last.fm.
