STARKIM is a Brooklyn bred emcee, with a Bed Stuy/East New York demeanor which naturally came with the territory he grew up in. With musical influences ranging from the Motown greats to the early Hip-Hop pioneers such as Krs-One, Big Daddy Kane, Rakim, Public Enemy and Kool G Rap! Starkim was not his birth given name, but one he aquired while studying amongst a sudo- religious sect known as the 5%( five percenters). It became apparent to him that self knowledge was the only knowledge that could reverse the polarity of negative energy surrounding him in a whirlwind of life as it was known to him as a young African- American hailing from the mean streets of Brooklyn, New York City - especially during the turbulent '80's.
In 1994, a mutual friend introduced him to a member of the then popular rap group Onyx, and soon after, Starkim was able to forge a close bond with the group's leader Fredro Starr, after performing and getting his feet wet in the music industry, Starkim was then introduced to one time Bad Boy star, Craig Mack, who would, from 1997 until 2001, take Starkim on the road with him as his hype man.
Starkim's appearances include the famous Apollo Theatre, 106& park, and dvd's with various artist ranging from MBK'S Mike Millz and Rap city's host Mad linx's "on the Grind" dvd. After taking a few years off to reflect and redefine his purpose beyond music, Starkim was reintroduced to an old acquaintance by the name of AZ (The Firm) by way of legendary producer, Baby Paul.
Star Kim is currently working with AZ's Quiet money imprint and can be seen and heard on the new album scheduled for release in April 2008! Much of what early Hip-Hop fans have come to love about lyricists can be heard on his untitled debut album on the Quiet money Records imprint, with production from EZ Mo Bee, Baby Paul, Self Services and others including various features, SO BE ON THE LOOK OUT AND STAY TUNED, HIP- HOP hasn't died, it was getting a little rest!
