Lil PJ, or Peter James as he is known among his peers, is an up-and-coming hip-hop artist from the suburbs of Orinda, California. By combining personalized lyrics with the mesmerizing beats of MC Gourty, he provides an introspective into the stressful life of a high-school student. He began his journey to become a rap star in 2008 when he released his highly touted, yet controversial, 'The Gospel According to PJ.' With references to his closest friends and most severe enemies, he gives the audience a close look into the struggles of his Sophomore year. 'Dreads in Ya Face 'Cause I'm Black and Fast' is comical summary of his receiving capabilities as a JV Football player, while 'Alex You're a Pussy' is a hate-filled assortment of lyrics condemning his soon-to-be producer and friend Alex McGourty. With an album filled with as many mood swings as a pregnant women, his first release caught the ears of hundreds of eager listeners. Following a brief hiatus, PJ unexpectedly came out with his next album: 'The New Testament.' Although it initially received criticisms for his reference to a past relationship in the song 'Just a Friend,' the release soon became a staple among his peers. "His maturation as an artist and as a human being is evident in songs such as 'Booty Go Round' and 'Ballin' in Orinda,'" notes Ian Woods, one of PJ's most hardcore fans. As his career finally began to blossom, PJ introduced an album that would propel him into the highest echelon of artistry. 'Phace Value' was released on December 12th, 2009. With MC Gourty producing his beats and Emoney, a San Francisco State student featuring on many of his tracks, PJ cooked up what is hailed to be his finest piece of work by the Mirador (Miramonte High School Newspaper). Although the album features only four tracks, the emotion and time spent on each one is evident in the finely-whittled lyrics and soul-shaking beats. Since then, PJ has released 'The Endless Mixtape,' a potpourri of different genres of music. From Alternative Rock to Dubstep, he shows both his versatility as an artist and his adventurous side as he tackles lyrics and beats yet to be tamed by any other rapper. "In only two years Lil PJ has managed to build a sturdy fan base and cement himself as one of the all-time great hip-hop artists of the Bay Area," admonishes Sean Larner, a rapper and a friend of PJ's. "Just imagine what he'll accomplish in the future." Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
