Ryan Jackson Troika, Troika [troi-kuh] being Russian for Trio, is a Boston based Progressive Rock/Jazz/Funk/Experimental Pop Band. Their sound can best be described as "a gumbo of precise originality," mixing jazzy melodic vocals with intricately structured rock songs and hints of many progressive rock influences. Improvisation often plays a strong but non-overwhelming role in the makeup of their songs.
Ryan Jackson Troika consists of, but is not limited to Ryan Jackson on guitars and vocals, Johannes Heger on bass, and Luke Sullivan on drums and backing vocals. Ryan Jackson, a western NY native, moved to Boston to be part of the music scene in 2005 after several years of playing with different bands around the NY and PA areas. In 2009 he released a solo album "Out Of Nothingness", which the band currently plays some songs from. Johannes Heger, an experienced musician from Germany decided to move to Boston to further his knowledge at The Berklee School of Music. Once Luke Sullivan, a Berklee graduate, recording engineer, and producer well known around the Boston area decided to hop on drums, the Ryan Jackson Troika was complete.
While being fairly new to the Boston music scene, Ryan Jackson Troika is quickly creating a buzz among promoters, clubs and musicians. With influences such as John Scofield, King Crimson, Radiohead, Yes, Miles Davis, Tool, Sondre Lerche, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Andrew Bird, Beck and many others, the band brings forth a wide range of sounds.
