The Wallets were a highly danceable, and original, outfit originally hailing from the Twin Cities. Formed (I think) in the late 70's, by 1980 they had decamped to New York, and were appearing in the club scene there until around 1983. Thereupon they returned to the Twin Cities until their disbandment in 1989. Their sound is difficult to describe--Steve Kramer's label of "punk polka" is perhaps most apt. The original lineup also included guitar and additional saxophones, but by the time of their return to Minnesota, the five-piece lineup was firmly established.

Steve Kramer was the heart behind the band, and the primary songwriter. A visual artist as well as a composer and arranger, Kramer's quirky, somewhat tortured outlook on life informs many of the songs. Upon disbanding the Wallets, Steve and his manager Bob Hest have gone on to become extremely succesful composers of commercial jingles, both locally and nationally. Read more on Last.fm.
