Among the Oak & Ash are Garrison Starr and Josh Joplin.

Their self-titled debut album was released on June 16th, 2009 on Verve Records.

Among the Oak & Ash (the name is borrowed from the title of an old folk song) faithfully render traditional ballads and folk tunes but with a contemporary American sound. Their energy and blend of electric and acoustic instrumentation is reminiscent of bands like Fairport Convention and Steeleye Span. With the exception of 2 originals (“Joseph Hillstrom” and “High, Low & Wide”) the source material on this debut album consists of tunes whose derivations range from the 1600’s through the early 20th Century and was produced by Brian Harrison.
