BIO: SOULDIERS OF FORTUNE: Met in 2001 @ a DJ equipment and party hire shop & while remaining friends the two took very different paths with their music. Reuben moved into the Melbourne trance and rave scene playing with the 5am crew and various underground dance parties. Ben went down the path of house playing many and varied club nights all around Melbourne. In 2002 Ben sent a DJ promo mix cd to new Melbourne radio station, Nova100 to play on their weekly dance music show. The mix proved so popular that the station made Ben a regular & he went on to provide two mixed sets every week for the next 12 months. By 2005 Ben was listed in the top 5 Victorian dj’s in The Heineken found @ thirst Dj comp. During this time Reuben began working on producing tracks and setting up his home studio. One of his first co productions was released on trance label Trancetribe Recordings. It was in 2005 that Ben & Reuben then made the decision to begin collaborating on production together. They began working from Reuben’s humble home studio and Souldiers of Fortune engine had started. Their first track “Slave To The Rhythm” was given by Ben to Carl Cox in a chance meeting on an airplane. Carl liked the track so much that he played it the same night at his Brisbane gig to over 2000 club goers.!! With such backing the duo dedicated their efforts to polishing their skills and started work on remaking the classic funk track “Jungle Boogie” by Kool & the Gang. While not wanting to diminish anything from the original recording they went on to base their remake around clever use of the main hooks and melody. With new pumping drums and bass lines the remake had a fresh club house sound. The track went on to become a regular in the track listing for Nova100s dance show; Overdrive. The track has been featured in the top100 downloads house chart on www. beatport. com for over 8 weeks, and was also listed as a beatport feature track. By 2008 Souldiers of Fortune have been in demand & busy in the studio with remix work, having put their touch on mixes for: “Xplode” J Nitti feat Shirley Davis, “Swing Swing” Wax Poetic “The Power” Marcus Knight feat Ladi Tash “Meaning of Life” Blockfish “Touch Me On The Dance Floor” Ryan Riback "Soiree" Skytek "Wiggle It" Ricki Lee In between studio sessions Souldiers of Fortune are a dynamic dj’ing duo that sees them rock dance floors across Melbourne at venues such as Veludo and Q Bar. They have recently supported the likes of international heavyweights Roger Sanchez & Laidback Luke. Read more on Last.fm.
