22/7 (read as Nanabun no Nijūni (ナナブンノニジュウニ Twenty Two Per Seven)) is a Japanese idol project between Yasushi Akimoto, Aniplex, and Sony Music Records. The project is described as "Idols Who Transcend Dimensions". The name was chosen because it is an approximation of pi, an irrational number that can not be expressed in integer division.

A digital idol audition for 8 characters was held until December 17, 2016, with the final examination taking place on December 24, 2016. The project includes both a CD debut and an anime. On December 25, 2016, the idol group name was revealed to be 22/7. Among 10,325 applicants, 11 voice actresses were chosen through voting, only 8 characters were initially revealed.
The group held their debut showcase on June 16, 2017, and the animated adaptation was announced on July 22nd, 2017 during their first live event.

The group's first single, "Boku wa Sonzai Shiteinakatta," was released on August 22, 2017. The music video was animated by Tatsunoko Production and the jacket was illustrated by Yukiko Horiguchi.

On April 11th, 2018, a documentary called, "Documentary of 22/7," was released. The documentary features the group's behind-the-scene activities before their debut. On the same day, the group's second single, "Shampoo no Nioi ga Shita," was released.

A variety show named, "22/7 Keisanchū" premiered on July 7th, 2018, on Tokyo MX. The first season ended on December 28, 2019, with a second premiering April 4th, 2020. The show features comedian duo, "Sanshiro" as the hosts and follows the cast as they visit different locations.

On August, 22nd, 2018, their third single, "Rikaisha," was released and debuted at #7 on the Oricon Daily Singles Chart. During their live event on July 22nd, 2018, the group elected Chiharu Hokaze as the leader of the group. On September 21st, 2018, the last three members (Tsubomi Hiragi, Yuki Tojo, and Mikami Kamiki) were revealed to the public during a promotional event.

The group's fourth single, "Nani mo Shiteagerarenai," was released on July 22nd, 2019 and was their first release to include all eleven characters. On December 11th, 2019, Mei Hanakawa, the voice actress for Nicole Saitō, announced her departure from the group due to health issues. Hanakawa's final performance alongside the group was held on December 24th, 2019 where Uta Kawase was announced as the new voice actress for Nicole Saitō. On that same day, a mobile game titled, "22/7 Ongaku no Jikan," was announced. The game is being developed by h.a.n.d Inc with ForwardsWorks and Aniplex. It is set to release in Spring 2020.

Before the release of the anime, the group was featured in an online web-series titled, "The Diary of Our Days," which was an 8 episode ONA series consisting of 1-minute episodes, animated by CloverWorks and directed by Shin Wakabayashi. The net animation released on March 28, 2018.

The anime, announced in 2017, premiered on January 11th, 2020 and ran till March 28th, 2020 as a 12 episode series. The series was animated by A-1 Pictures and directed by Takao Abo. On February 26th, 2020, the opening theme for the anime was released as the group's fifth single and is the first title track that Uta Kawase participated in. As the anime at that point had only featured the original 8 members, this track also only features the original 8 characters.

A manga adaption featuring the group was also created called "22/7 +α," and started serialization on Shogakukan's, "Sunday Webry," website and app on January 12th, 2020. It ended publication on March 29th, 2020 with 2 volumes and 10 chapters. The manga was written by Reiji Miyajima and illustrated by Nao Sakai.
