Ilana’s music mainstay is blues and old-time Southern fiddle, but her versatility as an improvisational musician often leads her to play all kinds of music. She loves performing in Boston’s subways, but she often performs with the who's who of Blues musicians. Ilana has shared the stage – and recorded – with blues great Ronnie Earl, soulful vocalist Diane Blue, Bobby Radcliff, amongst others.
ILANA KATZ KATZ has been hailed as “a rising star with her own blend of Blues and old-time Appalachian fiddling and singing.” Ilana began as a busker in 2008, playing the crowded platforms of Boston’s subway stations where you can still find her each week when she isn’t touring and performing ‘above ground.’ Her fourth record - In My Mind - debuted #4 on iTunes National Blues Charts and in many capacities (Blues, Contemporary Blues, etc...) on the Roots Music Report - top 20 and top 5 in come categories. She won the Boston Blues Society’s Blues Challenge as a solo artist for 2017 and is a frequent Blues and Roots Festival performer at the International Level.
She only began playing outside of the subway in 2013 after a chance meeting with master bluesman Ronnie Earl. He took Ilana under his wing, offering to accompany her on her 2014 debut record, before showcasing her as his guest in many shows around Boston and New York. Her distinguished signature Blues violin and singing soon had her guesting with a who’s who of Blues musicians, in addition to solo performances at the mayor of Boston’s gala ball, and various festivals around the country.
