the Wildwood Holler! is a modern folk string trio consisting of banjo, mandolin, and bass. The current lineup of musicians has been in place since late 2003, and since that time the band has played about 100 performances per year; mostly regionally around the Northern Front Range in Colorado.

Playing traditional instruments with a fresh original sound, the Holler! incorporates elements of their classically trained past as well as original material that makes the music unique. (Michael, the mandolinist, is a seasoned opera singer, while Josh, the banjo player, majored in tuba in college.) The bassist, Ryan, is an expert on Colorado trees and plays the instrument in the band that looks most like a tree.

Focusing on musical quality and originality rather than trying to copy the latest fads in jam-band-meets-bluegrass, the WH! has been honored with KUNC’s “Best New Artist of 2005” award, and is gaining momentum and popularity among discriminating music lovers in Colorado and beyond.
