There are at least three artists with the name Katara:

1. A female guitarist and songwriter who performs and writes modern folk-pop music
2. An all male 4 piece band
3. An instrumentalist duo from Florida, USA

1. Multi-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter Katara has launched her new release, "The Dodgeball EP," as well as the video to its captivatingly beautiful first single, "The Flood." This album, now available on iTunes, marks Katara's self-released debut.

Produced by J Chris Griffin (Madonna, John Legend) and Katara herself, the tracks on "The Dodgeball EP" can be best described as "modern folk" with "a pop twist" and showcase Katara's dynamic songwriting abilities. Each track is laden with catchy melodies, clever instrumentation, and lyrics that range from "quirky indie love songs" to "deeply soulful ballads."

Armed with a piano and ukulele, the title track "Dodgeball" is unabashedly sweet with lyrics like "We're kissing nose, nose making out like Eskimos" and "On your cheeks I'll bat my eyes, kissing like a butterfly."

"I wanted to write a song about being in love with your best friend," Katara explains. "It's important to be able to be silly sometimes, to laugh and have fun. 'Dodgeball' is a song that looks at love that way."

Despite her lighthearted sense of humor, it's clear that Katara has put in a lot of serious work into this album. She exclusively wrote all the music and lyrics and played many of the instruments herself: including acoustic guitar, piano, ukulele, mandolin, and electric guitar.

"It took me over a year to find the right producer to work with on this EP," Katara says. "During that time, I produced a lot of the background music in my little home studio using midi and developed the guitar solos and rhythm instrumentation. J Chris Griffin was the final piece of the puzzle that brought it all together."

The music video to Katara's single "The Flood" will be released on the songstress' official YouTube channel on Wednesday (January 18, 2012), and features the female guitarist playing both rhythm acoustic and electric riffs. True to the theme of the song, interlaced with shots of Katara playing her guitars are close-ups of the singer in "Flood-like" waters. The song has a hauntingly beautiful modern-folk feel, a fusion of R&B beats and folk melodies with a soaring pop hook, highlighting Katara's innovative songwriting style.

Katara is now offering a free download of her new single "The Flood." Fans who "like" Katara's Facebook Page may download a free MP3 of her music from now until until July 18, 2012.

3. Katara is composed of Seth Lynn and Natalie DePergola. Their sound blends experimental, virtuosic harp playing with steady, deep grooves enriched by lush harmonies. Their music aims to inspire joy and provoke thought, offering listeners a sense of meaning.

"These days," their debut album, serves as an introduction to the world - a fusion of everything they love, crafted into something uniquely their own. Driven by a passion for creation, they make music for the sake of artistry, beauty, and meaning. Read more on Last.fm.
