When a documentary is made about the role music, dance, and technology can play in the transformation of emerging global consciousness, Astro Hawk would want to make the soundtrack. Why not, he’s already written a Masters Thesis on the subject!
His music is deep, driving, electric and tribal. It’s conscious electronic dance music he calls, “Soulsonic Transportation” because he believes modern dance music can be, as our ancestors used rhythm, a “sonic vehicle for transporting our soul” into shamanic states of being where we intersect a larger part of our humanity and it’s connection to all life…and we have a lot of fun doing it!
To aid in this process he often incorporates inspired lyrics or samples he creates or from luminaries he knows, or worked with, along with nature sounds from his global journeys. He's intentionally distributing his music to often raise funds and awareness for community development projects that he's encountered on his world travels. Oh!...and his studio is powered by the star at the center of our solar system.
Astro Hawk has been interested in expanding how people listen to and experience dance music. He’s inspired by how, when and where dance music can intentionally expand a sense of unity, community, healing and artistic expression. So for almost two decades now he’s been taking his music and dj performances not just to clubs and festivals, but to expressive body movement events, writing and art conferences, ritual theater shows, spiritual celebrations, university lectures, and even a labyrinth walking meditation to name a few.
Though Dj’ing for 20 years he’s been steadily moving more toward production over the last 12. He was the house Dj and coordinator for the Cosmic Mass in Oakland California. He’s given lectures and held workshops on the potential the dj and dance music culture have for creating archetypes to guide the evolution of a healthy planetary consciousness. He’s performed on both coasts of the US and in Asia and Europe and has opened for some acclaimed performers and Dj’s along the way.
His latest effort was to finish an album entitled “Sonic Nomad Project, Vol.1” which is a culmination of three years of work and world travels, and creatively weaves three of his greatest passions: travel, dance music, and humanitarianism.
The album courses through multiple genres of electronic dance music and some elements of world groove and its stand out feature is an inventive use of samples Astro Hawk has personally taken from a 6 month around the world adventure. He’s also using distribution of the album to help raise awareness and some proceeds for community organizations he’s met and worked with on his travels.
Several of the tracks were mastered by Casey Nefcy of Counterw8 Records in San Francisco and further mastering support came from Overground Digital Records in Budapest.
