Lead vocalist, guitarist and songwriter, Mark Goey began his musical journey at 10 years of age, when he picked up his first guitar. An escape from the harsh reality of an unsettling childhood he would spend hours teaching himself to play. Ironically he was kicked out of formal music class for not being musically orientated, which at the time - as is the case with most rebellious youth, only encouraged his interest further. However in his late teens, life would take a sudden turn forcing Goey to completely abandoned playing altogether. It wasn’t until 2001, when he was presented a guitar as a gift that he would reconnect with his former love, music.

Many paths crossed in 2006 when Goey found Mark Murphy. A highly regarded local drum teacher and session musician, Murphy spent most of the last decade playing pubs, clubs and festivals with various Melbourne rock bands. Kindred spirits, they hit it off immediately and swiftly started song writing. It was whilst working on one song in particular, ‘Clandestine,’ that Goey expressed the need for keyboards:

“I was trying to find a B3 player for ‘Clandestine’, spoke to Murph, Murph said he knew a ‘monster of a player’ and put me on to Mark Hile. We hit it off over the phone, started cyber recording and met in person almost a year later”.

With years of playing and session experience Hile fit neatly in to the Lotus Trojan equation and since that point this harmonious trio have been ticking songs off the ever growing Lotus Trojan list.

As far as the future is concerned, as Goey says, “The rest is history yet to be made.” Lotus Trojan are ultimately happy to see if better songs can be written, Goey is pessimistic about the current state of the music industry and prefers to focus on what he enjoys writing:

“Most musos in this type of music tend to favour style over substance, which is something I try and stay away from. Something which I think has undermined great music in the last 30 years. It’s kind of old school but I can't really think of any other way at the moment.”

Lotus Trojan’s latest album “Volume One” is currently available. A heady mix of raw emotion and creativity, “Volume One” was independently recorded and produced in Melbourne, Australia from 2007 to 2009 and is sure to capture the attention and imagination of all who take the time to listen.
