Back in 1996, CLEOPATRA RECORDS issued the album OTHER PLACES by the COSMIC COURIERS 1, consisting of Moebius (from the band CLUSTER), NEUMEIER (from GURU GURU), and ENGLER (from DIE KRUPPS). Altho its not a bad album at all, I have to wonder WHY Cleopatra records is remarketing the SAME material, with different CD covers, and some different selections to the track lists. OTHER PLACES had the same songs, that you see here as the last 4 songs....ANABOLICA, DAT LOOP, SUMPFIGE WASSER, and the other one from the end of the track list. Those last four tracks only contained three of the musicians that are listed on this album, so there again, you might think that someone from FAUST is playing on all the cuts, but they are not. That means, some of this music is 13 years old. SO, you are buying a compilation CD here. If you already own OTHER PLACES by the COSMIC COURIERS 1, then you are getting about half of that album reissued. On the plus side, if you DONT have OTHER PLACES, then check out this conglomeration of krautrockers. The beat has some nice worldmusic overtones from Neumeier, the drummer/leader of GURU GURU. As for Moebius, back in the 70s with CLUSTER and HARMONIA, he did a lot of work with ENO, when ENO was in his "BERLIN" period. This CDs sound might be best catagorized, at least in part, as a type of ambient trance music. (the last four songs were produced during the RAVE culture, so they have CHILL ROOM written all over them.) The tatoo drum movements get a bit boring, from lack of texture. This only become probmatic in songs where the drums are mixed front and center, which is done on most of them. Overall, a bit generic sounding, for the calibre of musicians playing here. Its not wallpaper music either. I might be tempted to give it four stars, since this music is so MOOD dependant. But I have to take off a star, for not declaring that its a compilation CD.
