Afrikaans Rap and Hip Hop is bursting onto the scene with Jack Parow and Die Antwoord making it popular after Brasse vannie Kaap first gave it resonance. The newly formed Pretoria Band BITTEREINDER is giving it another face. They represent concious Afrikaans rap that is light and spirited. Produced by the genius of Peach van Pletzen (also producer of Van Coke Kartel’s latest abum) and showcasing collaborations with Jack Parow, Tumi Molekane (Tumi and the Volume) , Inge Beckmann (Lark) , Sev Statik (New York) and Tim Beumers (Rotterdam).

With intricate levels of melody and harmony creating captivating soundscapes, the music on ‘n Ware Verhaal is a far cry from the stagnant and monotonous loops found in most contemporary rap offerings. Jaco’s lyrical themes range from humorous and fearless social commentary to fables and narratives intended to induce in the listener the long-neglected art of thinking.

The first single off the album, A Tale of Three Cities, is a patriotic hip hop masterpiece featuring rappers Jaco van der Merwe, Tumi Molekwane and Jack Parow reflecting on their relationships with their home-cities of Pretoria, Johannesburg and Cape Town. Other collaborators on the album include Inge Beckmann (Lark) on “wakkerword”, Richard Brokensha (Kidofdoom, Isochronous) on “die slang & die arend” as well as Dutch rapper Tim Beumers on “slechte mensen” in the first ever Afrikaans-Dutch rap collaboration.
