Possessor of a voice, described by some as "unusually beautiful" is an icon in the musical evocation of romantic Havana 1930. Because of his unique style of singing danzón, Barbarito Diez was given the title "La Voz de Oro del Danzon. " (Golden Voice of Danzon).

He spent his childhood in Central Manatí and in the late 1920's he moved to Havana to become part of Graciano Gomez' musical group.

In 1935, he formed part of the Antonio Maria Romeu Orchestra as a voice soloist, being a Danzones, Sones and Boleros interpreter for more than five decades. With this orchestra, Diez was accompanied at shows and recording sessions, even after Romeo's death, until the eighties.

Alongside his work in the orchestra Romeu, founded the Select Quartet, with whom he conducted performances of the bohemian cabaret of Havana in the forties.
