Cupla (koop-luh)
1. Irish Gaelic for 'twin' or 'a couple of....'.
Bobby and Billy McAloney are twins. One plays guitar and one plays
drums. They've had the same musical influences (Meatloaf, Big Sugar,
White Stripes, Metallica and Slipknot), and they've played together in
the same bands.
Now together again in Cupla, the real fun starts as they take their
combined decades of experience and start to roll out the good stuff.
It's an old fashioned rock band with heart. With Trish McAloney in the
lead, Ken Li on lead guitar and Travis Rankin on Bass, it's a bit of
Patti Smith and a bit of Lou Reed and a lot of work eithic that's paid
off....at last.

Billy and I are 3rd Generation Canadians from Coquitlam, BC, but still have a lot of Family in Ireland, hence the Name 'CUPLA'.
I've always loved music, the first albums I can remember listening to were my Dads vinyl of The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Meatloaf's Bat Out Of Hell. Right away I knew I loved Rock and Roll. Growing up I listened to a lot of Metallica, they were my favorite band for a very long time. I used to run around playing air guitar to all of Heitfelds riffs and Hammets crazy solos and although I never listened to a lot of 60's and 70's rock, I still appreciated it, it might sound funny but I never really gave bands like Zeppelin a real good listen until later on in life, maybe I just needed to mature!
Then about 10 years ago I was introduced to a Canadian Band by the name of Big Sugar and I think for all intense purposes Gordie Johnson changed the way I felt about music, changed the way I looked at it.
Then came The White Stripes and after listening to Jack wail on his guitar I was hooked. Such raw emotion and you didn't have to be ripping arpeggios up and down the fret board you just had to be feeling it, one sustained note could make you cry or move you to the chorus and have you jumping with excitement, right then I knew I wanted in. I haven't played guitar long and God knows me and my brother have had a life that only few people live through and get to talk about it afterwards, and music helps me channel theses emotions, this pent up anger or the thoughts Love or Betrayal. I love the quote " Nothing in this world brings people together like music, they will fight over politics, religion, money, power, but never music. It captures the human in all of us."
I played in Paranormus for almost 3 years and it really helped me get my work ethic down. I'm ready to open the new chapter of my musical career and we're ready to bring you the music the only way we now how, by feeling it and loving it. I guess its cliché but that's how we feel!

The 1st music I remember listening to was my dad's record's of "Killer Queen " and Meatloaf's 'Bat Out Of Hell " and I loved it, every note, every scream. Then when I was around 8 or 9 years old my older brother brought home 'Metallica's Master Of Puppets', for the next 10 years I was hooked on those guys like most rockers were, and also cranked AC/DC at every party. I also listened to what ever was going on in that time never fully committing to one genre but always falling asleep to Metallica albums, closing my eyes and pretending I was on stage playing those songs, most of the time B-sides, I guess I'd consider myself a B-side type guy.
Once I got older I opened up to older music, 60's, 70's and yes even more 80's. It's funny because Bobby and I have the same experience that changed us and the way we looked at music all together, the commodore Ballroom and the band was Big Sugar. I was hooked. Then came Mr. Jack White, what I consider a saviour of music in a time that big production music ruled, he went against the grain of most bands at that time and conquered where most failed.
I really didn't know I wanted to play drums until one day I was going through the internet and I saw this story " Lars hurt, Joey Jordison steps in and plays for Metallica.". I saw Joey play on the Disaster Pieces DVD and I've never seen anything like it, I was in awe. I knew then and there that I wanted to play drums! Even though I love many many drummers and I am influenced by a lot of them, Joey was the "one" that started it all.

Growing up, I was lucky, I had a sister 8 years older then me and so you could say I was exposed to all sorts of music at a very young age. To this day I love it all, but tend to gravitate to an alternative/blues rock. When the twins started Cupla I immediately liked their vision and thought it would be cool to sing with them. Never having much experience in singing I don't think they knew what they were in for when I asked to sing White Queen!! The rest is history, I now I am here part of a great band and tight knit family, who could ask for anything more? I hope the world sees our music the way I do, it is raw emotion built on experiences we each have had in our lives and I think that is what makes us so extraordinary! I truly am blessed to be a part of it.

I was born in Hong Kong and I've been flying back and forward between Hong Kong & Canada ever since I was I kid, but I moved to Vancouver when I was 17. I've playing guitar for around 10 years, but I am also a songwriter. I've played in 'The Bastard', and then later joined a UK pop Rock Band called 'Fill In The Blank'. I have been playing steady for the past few years and then met the twins and joined Cupla. I'm a Blues based guitarist. My Guitar influences are mostly Slash, Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton. My music/ Writing influence/style are Pop Punk, HardRock, Blues, UK rock, Garage rock and Alternative rock. Read more on Last.fm.
