Born in Chicago raised in Texas," Charlie J Memphis' direction for his life was decided the first time he stepped on a Chicago stage. At a young age, in the suburbs of Chicago, Charlie started preparing for a musician's life. He played out whenever possible to deliver raw and loud performances that were inspired by his punk heroes. After moving to Texas, Charlie developed a new and unique sound inspired by his new home. A sound that pays homage to the forefathers and the outlaws of country music, while not forsaking his first love, punk.

In 2018 Charlie proclaimed his intentions and dropped his first single, Move Along that was produced by Jaret Reddick. "Move Along," is an upbeat rock-a-billy influenced country song written out of young heartbreak. In the Fall of that year, he released a debut EP, "Bloody is the Water," with producer John Pedigo recorded at Modern Electric Sound Recorders in Dallas. The EP was clearly a sound that most did not expect from Charlie. It was a sound that was uniquely his that was influenced by various artists that were affecting him at the time he wrote the songs. The EP's sound was coined to be swamp rock an amalgamation of blues and country. He teamed up with Pedigo late in the year to release "Fairy Tales," it was written as Charlie reflected on Christmases in Chicago versus those in North Texas.

In 2019 Charlie and Pedigo got together once again to record "Trophy Wife." This was his first recorded cover song, but it was clearly a marker of where he was heading for future projects. Charlie had found this John Paul Smith song on a 7" John Paul Smith and the Coal Creek Boys at Chief Records and immediately was a fan. John Paul and Charlie became friends after Charlie posted on Instagram of him, covering another one of John Paul's songs, "Rosetown." Charlie released "Trophy Wife" and an accompanying video on May 1st of 2020. Charlie is heading back into the studio in the Fall of 2020 to record new material that he is excited to release. He says these songs will be the songs that tell my story and my declared sonic direction.

Charlie is currently supporting Vincent Neil Emerson as a member of the Road Runners on bass. He has fallen in love with being on the road and touring as a Road Runner and finds it hard being home for any length of time. Charlie's songwriting has become more vulnerable and honest as he draws from his new life experiences, both high and low. When he is not on the road with Vincent, you can also find him supporting Dakota Smith, another Dallas based project he is involved with. Charlie also is an intern at Echo Labs for Matt Pence assisting his mentor and the artist in session. Read more on Last.fm.
