dewey defeats truman (always written in lowercase) were an emo / indie-rock band formed in San Diego, USA in 1997 by vocalist/guitarist Mark MacBride (ex-member of Luper) and bassist/vocalist James Reader & drummer Scott Frazier (ex-members of Red Dye No.5).

In 2000 the band released their debut mini-album, the amusingly / confusingly titled "B-Sides, Rarities and Out-Takes" on Silver Girl Records, and followed that up in 2002 with their "Road to Nowhwere Maps" EP on Has Anyone Ever Told You Records.

It appears they are not currently active, but if anyone has any information to the contrary please edit this!
