Conceived as a vehicle for the resurgence of blues-based classic rock, The Dirty Rooks began as a ham-fisted power chord outfit called "Moustache." The original foursome built a meager following singing Rolling Stones and The Band covers at open mic nights across Chicago, but less than a year later, having upgraded their rhythm section and honed their chops, the newly-christened Dirty Rooks hit their stride.

Poised to break onto a scene desperate for good-time music with a bluesy tinge and a "no-navel-gazing-guarantee," The Dirty Rooks debuted the night the White Sox won the World Series. Their hastily-improvised, 15-minute version of "Sweet Home Chicago" whipped the celebrating crowd into a frenzy that witnessed the near destruction of the bar.

Chicago’s finest live music venues have hosted the 'Rooks, including The Abbey Pub, Gunther Murphy’s, Elbo Room, Phyllis’ Musical Inn and Underground Lounge. As their reputation for raucous performances continues to grow, so does their fanbase; The Dirty Rooks have sold albums around the Midwest and even internationally.

In March 2007, the band released its first album, featuring a dense two-guitar sound with vocal harmonies and deep rhythmic pockets. Reviewers lauded it as "pure, classic rock sound with some blues influence...” (Dan Ocwhat, Music Editor of The Real Chicago), which has "move[d] the genre forward and deliver[d] exciting music that spans decades and styles" (TAXI). Mike O'Cull (Illinois Entertainer) echoed that sentiment, saying, "most satisfying is the sound of the blues in young hands that, rather than treating the music as a museum piece, twist it to fit the moment." Newcity's Tom Lynch raved, "The Dirty Rooks burrow themselves underneath your nails, along with the dirt and scum and filth of the city streets. And they're good...rock 'n' roll hasn't been this drunk in a while." Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
