elusive dance producer David Harrow, the man behind the streetwise jazz beats of James Hardway, teams up with Clive Bell’s collection of Far Eastern woodwind and Mirai Kawashima’s Japanese vocal chords to concoct a feast of heady ambient exotica. Best known as Europe’s leading performer on the Japanese shakuhachi flute, Bell also brings Thai flutes and mouth organs to the party, while Kawashima trades his usual rock guitar for a deep exploration, Mongolian style, of the harmonic resonances of his throat. Harrow’s rich palette of electronica and percussion create a stunning context for some of the most mysterious playing you’ll hear this year, unless you live in Tibet.
