Native Sound formed in the fall of 2006 and comprised of John Tackabery (guitars, vocals), Greg Herndon (keys, backing vocals), Nathan Routh (bass), and Marshall Bjorling (drums, percussion) has stormed onto the local scene as of late with impressive turnouts and remarkable music every time they plug in and the lights dim. An eclectic mix of blues, jazz, pop, rock and roll, and the occasional improvised jam, Native Sound has created a sound all its own. Truly, think about it. How many bands can you name that mix all those styles and furthermore, mix them well? After a substantial amount of searching, you’ll arrive at only one: Native Sound. These guys have a focused agenda: write music and write music well. Let everything fall into place after that. All of the songs are written in part by everyone, but Greg Herndon and John Tackabery collaborate to do the bulk of the writing, and all of the lyricism. Popular songs by the group include "Landing on Serenity,” “Waiting,” “Nostalgia,” and “Town for Strangers.” The group addresses traditional topics such as relationships in songs like “Reverie” and “Move On” but they also venture off into the not-so-traditional with songs like “Waiting” which is about indecisiveness and living for the moment. And they aren’t bad musicians either. As a matter of fact, every member of the band plays at least one other instrument as well as the one he plays in the band. All four are accomplished students of music theory, too. When asked what their immediate goals are for the future, all agree that writing is the element they wish to put the most emphasis on, followed by playing as many shows with as much energy as possible.
