Sydney band Founder makes contemplative, predominately instrumental rock music via drums and guitars, with occasional samples, keyboards and vocals. Their sound ranges from the profoundly dark-edged to the dreamily melodic to the abstractly pop-like, occasionally within the same song. The mood is intense, yet spirited, at times built on chiming guitars and jazzy rhythms, at other times on lumbering, minimal pulses, dense guitar tsunamis or gently layered guitar loops.

After playing their first show as a three piece in early 2001 and self-releasing their 'Son of Burlington' demo EP, Founder soon earned a regular place on Sydney's stages aside acts such as Gersey, Art of Fighting, Browning, Sea Life Park, Sounds Like Sunset, Origami, Machine Translations, El Mopa, Bluebottle Kiss and Knievel.

In October 2001 the band recorded what would become their debut album with Tony Dupe in Gerroa, NSW. Dupe previously played in Sydney band Glovebox and had long been recording bands at his south coast beachside abode, including Sea Life Park, Browning, Lobsterman, Jamie Hutchings (Bluebottle Kiss) and Archer Prewitt (The Sea & Cake). It was a wonderful time. Founder's 'Orgen' was released in July 2002 on Sydney-based label, Heavy, to warm reviews.

Following a long hiatus where the band (Travis Baird, Kurt Sorensen and Joseph Leonard) would often appear in other bands such as The Woods Themselves, Kid Cornered and El Mopa, as well as working on solo records (Joseph Leonard and the Family Fuse, Traincleaner), they have recently returned to the live scene and hope to release a followup record to Orgen in the near future.
