Yanto Shortis is a singer/songwriter who moved to Melbourne from Wollongong NSW several years ago. Yanto has established himself as a credible artist whose songs capture loss, struggle and hope contained in great stories, full of local references making his songs feel real and easy to relate too, with a vocal delivery that is reminiscent of Don Henley and David Gray with story telling inspired by Paul Kelly and Bruce Springsteen..
Yanto uses a combination of blues, folk, country and rock to deliver his songs. Yanto’s impressive guitar playing and vocal delivery has earnt him a loyal following.

Acts supported: The Waifs, Mick Hart, Carus and the True Believers, Mia Dyson, Sime Nugent, Rob Sawyer and a host of others on his travels across the country. He has also appeared on many festivals and benefit concerts.

Releases: Yanto’s first album “Debt, Love and Alcohol” quickly sold out of its first pressing as people who saw Yanto play live at venues across the country queue to take his music home with them. It also got people talking such as, Josh Cunningham from The Waifs who said “his performances were very convincing and captured the essence of the tracks, which convey the experience and struggles of the independent artist making a life out of music.”

Yanto is now releasing his second album “Lantana on the hill”.
This time, stepping up from the sparseness of his first album, Yanto has added fiddle/violin, mandolin and dobro slide guitar to give some incredible dynamics to his songs. The new album is both powerful and poignant with the remarkable ability to break your heart and make you feel good at the same time. The album was warmly received at radio and led to live performances on Triple J’s Roots’n all program, RRR, PBS Fm and ABC national radio. The remarkable “Crying Tuesday” is the first radio single to be lifted from the album.
