Phương Mỹ Chi (born January 13, 2003) is a young Vietnamese singer specializing in Southern Vietnamese folk music. She rose to fame after becoming the runner-up of the first season of the reality TV show "The Voice Kids Vietnam".

Early Life and Family

Mỹ Chi was born on January 13, 2003, in a small alleyway on Mạc Vân Street in District 8, Ho Chi Minh City. She comes from a large family, with over 14 members (including her parents and older sister) living in a small house. Her father is Vietnamese of Chinese descent.

Musical Inspiration and Early Career

From a young age, Mỹ Chi dreamt of becoming a singer and buying a house for her parents. She received her first singing lessons from her aunt, Phương Quế Như, a former folk singer who had to give up her career due to diabetes. Her aunt discovered Mỹ Chi's talent when she overheard her humming the song "Chim Trắng Mồ Côi" in the bathroom at the age of six. Soon after, her aunt began teaching her how to sing properly.

Around 2010, Mỹ Chi and her family recorded two albums of Southern Vietnamese folk music, containing over 30 songs in total. Some of her most popular songs at the time, such as "Em Đi Trên Cỏ Non", "Nhớ Mẹ Lí Mồ Côi", and "Nỗi Buồn Mẹ Tôi", were uploaded online and gained significant traction among Vietnamese internet users.

Education

Mỹ Chi initially attended Tuy Lý Vương Primary School in District 8, Ho Chi Minh City. However, during her participation in "The Voice Kids Vietnam", she received a full scholarship from Grade 5 to Grade 12 at the Western Australian International School Vietnam and transferred there to continue her studies.
