Miami, FL's Vails is at the forefront of a near revolution in sound in heavy music. A virulent strain of progressive, underground, and sometimes violent heavy metal-infused guitar riffs steeped deeply in hardcore scene aesthetics and the much touted D.I.Y. ethic, with many that community's lowest common denominator, tough-guy minded inflections thankfully absent. It's a subgenre that is most often labeled noisecore. Much like their heroes in bands like Poison The Well, Converge and Daughters, Vails' sound balks at the established conventions and preconceived limitations of the hardcore genre, with the quartet tastefully and artfully crafting complex, mathematical musical compositions with dexterity, depth, and skill. Vocalist Miguel Yurrita takes his lyrical conceptualization very seriously, filling the band's record with stark metaphors and often wordy song titles. The band was formed in 2004 (at the time known as Handgun) when Miguel hooked up with his high school buds Christian Tenorio (drums), Hendel Villamizar (guitar), and other members -- a lineup that has bartered over the years. One year later, Handgun released their first demo, in 2005. After a long struggle of line-up changes and touring, a close to fatal incident was struck upon a former guitar player who was like a brother, that brought the bands' career to a halt for some time. Eventually, the band was able pick up where they left off with some changes; bassist Robert Sarabia contributed to the steady line-up and new music. In 2008 releasing their second EP, followed by a summer tour was successful and fortuned good things to come. 2009 saw the advancement of their final change to the band which was officially changing their name to "Vails." Following will be the release of the first debut full length album under their belts'. Profoundly dense, conceptually driven, and meticulously crafted; "Great Dead Heart" has shown light to the future for the band with upcoming tours and new friendships.
