The Instinct is the name of two groups:

1. The Instinct are comprised of five Cape Ann natives playing rock & roll in the tradition of The Clash, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Dinosaur, Jr., The Lemonheads, The Libertines, the Talking Heads among others. Their songs cover a variety of topics including love, heartbreak, work, family, the ocean, the future, marriage, gender, religion, and beyond, all while staying insane and positive about the end of all things. The Instinct have hours of original material, and a few covers ready to keep you dancing, and make you think about life.

Members of The Instinct have been active in the local music scene since the early 2000s and continue to play and support regional rock &roll. The Instinct have been lucky enough to play at great venues such as TT The Bears, The Middle East, Precinct, Opus Underground, Rosebud, McGann’s Irish Pub,The Tavern at the End of the World, The Cantab, Ralph's Rock Diner, Cape Ann Brewing Company, The Hive, and beyond. The Instinct are comfortable playing anywhere such as in a basement, in a field, or at a rock club and want to make you comfortable too.

The band is an engine made up two guitars, a bass, a saxophone, and drums. The guitars are held by Paul Bowie and Adam Jordan. The bass is held by Peter Landry. The saxophone is held by Frank Freedman. Eric Bowie sits behind the drums. Peter, Paul, and Adam work together to sing to you all night long with harmonies urging you to dance. They have put these skills to use to produce two albums, Mostly Awake (2015) and Fake It (2014), as well as a few other recordings, Made of Water (2013), Enemies//This Time Around (2013), and Ancient Oceans EP (2011).

2. The Instinct were a three piece pop/punk band originating from Hobart, which is on the big island thats shaped like a womans pubic region called Tasmania, located south of the Australian mainland.

The bands origins begun in 2004/05 under their previous name; "The Numlocks", and since then, have had a few lineup changes whilst kicking it back on the Tasmanian scene, doing shows all over the state with local legends such as Ballpoint, Stand Defiant, The Trolls and The Reactions, as well as some national acts including The Go Set and Tang, plus hundreds of other colaberations of musicians.

In 2006, they released their debut album: "Bird Flu" as 'The Numlocks', which is for sale pretty much just in Tasmania, but can be found if looked for hard enough.

Come 2008, the band recorded a seven-track EP titled "Push Comes to Shove", however it was never pritned and released. The EP is available for free download at the following link.
