Dubbed by Cincinnati City Beat as "the local music scene's youngest veterans," Marking Twain has been performing in bars across the Midwest long before they were legally able to patronize them. With no members older than 21, Marking Twain is everything that comes along with being a young and energetic rock band, but with enough experience to be musically legitimate. The band combines tight rock grooves with sexy, infectious melodies to create a sound that gets nods to Maroon 5, Matchbox 20, and The Police.
Members of Marking Twain grew up, as described by the Cincinnati Enquirer as Cincinnati's "teen icons," gaining local notoriety as their band, Premium, scored slots opening for Jason Mraz, John Mayer, and Edwin McCain while they were still in high school. As the novelty wore off, however, they soon realized the amount of dedication it would take to make any sort of serious run. Now students at Miami University of Ohio, they reshaped the band with such lessons in mind. In December of 2005, they released their critically acclaimed debut self-produced album "The Identity Slip," and with an intense DIY attitude began booking themselves into major markets including New York City, Chicago, Nashville, Detroit, and everywhere else in between. The band has opened for Better Than Ezra, Ingram Hill, and Blessid Union of Souls, and have earned spins for "Madison," their infectious ode to a stripper, on Columbus' top-rated CHR station, 97.1FM. Along the way they've gained an impressive college fan-base, no doubt testament to their ability to connect with their peers.
The hard work has been paying off. In the fall of 2006, Marking Twain became the youngest group ever to be nominated for a Cincinnati Entertainment Award (CEA), and are currently working on a new release that features popular new songs "Out of My Mind," "Spellbound," "Background," and more!
