Solomon Majafela Molokoane (April 15, 1959 – October 2, 2024), best known as Solly Moholo, was a South African gospel singer, ANC member, and devout follower of the Zion Christian Church (ZCC). He was known for his unique blend of traditional gospel sound and modern township influences. Moholo rose to national fame following the release of his breakthrough album Ba Mmitsa Tsotsi in 2001.

Born and raised in the township of Soshanguve in Pretoria, Gauteng, Solly Moholo grew up in a deeply religious Christian family. His performances were widely recognized for the ZCC-style attire and the spirited church dance known as Mokhuku. Though he had been involved in music before, his solo career officially took off in the early 2000s, earning him acclaim across Southern Africa.

Solly Moholo was a pivotal figure in South African gospel music. His songs were praised for their energy, conviction, and mass appeal, resonating with millions in South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Namibia, and Lesotho. Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi described him as a man who used his music to fight crime and uplift communities.

He also mentored several artists, including gospel singer Winnie Mashaba, who credited him for giving her and many others a platform in the gospel industry. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
