Blue Cast Catalyst, or BCC, is the moniker of New York City-based, psychedelic-pop composer, Adam Trull and a rotating roster of performers. Originally hailing from New Hampshire, Trull is a self-taught multi-instrumentalist, song-writer, and producer.

Trull got his start in music while studying music-theory and performance in middle-school. While studying business at the University of New Hampshire, Trull performed with regional art-funk project Sweet Motha’ Child, where he met the future co-creators of Blue Cast Catalyst (namely John Deming, Matt Soucy, and others).

Blue Cast Catalyst was originally formed as a side-project for Trull, while performing as a trumpet player in Boston-based roots-reggae band iLa Mawana. After relocating to New York City in May 2009, Trull’s artistic endeavors became solely focused upon developing BCC’s music.

In early 2011, following the release of his first album, As Bright As Day, Trull stumbled across a Brian Wilson biography. Shortly thereafter, he spent months studying The Beach Boys, The Beatles, Panda Bear / Animal Collective, and other psychedelic musicians and authors. Concurrently, his studies veered his interest to the “Wall of Sound” technique, originated by producer Phil Spector and later tweaked by such artists as My Bloody Valentine and Tame Impala.

With the help of John Deming and five other BCC “family-musicians”, Trull began writing and recording the music for his sophomore release, Socrates Sculpture, in October 2011. Spanning over twenty-four months of writing and recording, Socrates Sculpture, influenced by 60’s psychedelia and “Wall of Sound” production, grew into a grand coagulation of dense vocal arrangements, sloshy rhythm sections, and bombastic horns.

At times, the sweet, sugary sound bursts from the seams, drenching the listener in blissful chaos. Socrates Sculpture is akin to gazing into a blissfully chaotic kaleidoscope of slippery ‘60s psychedelic-pop, amassing into a mammoth “Wall of Sound” melodic madhouse. Influenced by such legendary artists as The Beach Boys and Phil Spector and such polarizing culture figures as Kurt Vonnegut and Stephen Hawking, it is a satirical and honest look into the mind of a studied-musician turned corporate executive turned psychedelic pop composer.

In September 2011, BCC self-released their first LP, with strong reviews:
“their heavily textured aesthetic [is] both pop gem and otherworldly experience” (HipsterStyle.info)
“they very well could be the next popular indie breakthrough” (IndieBandHouse.com)
“crafting perfect indie pop / dream pop hybrids” (Spacelab.tv)
“it would be wise to keep a watchful eye on them” (IndieMusicDigest.com)

BCC’s sophomore album is scheduled to release on June 17th, 2014. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
