Mendocino County Blue Lyrics

Half day south of the Oregon line
Somewhere between a dream and a friend of mine
There's a song played out in the California heat
Where the rain won't touch
The road stretches out where the river unwinds
Red tail rider from the highway sign
You let the windows down and you're headed right into
Mendocino County Blues

Big wheel down
Little wheel roll
Make a sound that'll shake your soul
There's an eye in the sky everywhere you go
They're coming around
You can blame it on the money
But it's your own damn fault
Trouble ain't trouble
Til you get caught
Just one more ride and we'll have it made
Floating cool as the cotton in the Manzanita shade

Starlight Stella's got the mojo touch
With the sandman's hand man she don't need much
She makes the sugary sweet when he reaches right through

The Steep Canyon Rangers are an American bluegrass band from Brevard, North Carolina, USA. Formed in 2001, they have built a reputation as an engaging acoustic quintet seasoned by constant touring. Members are Woody Platt (Guitar/Lead Vocals), Mike Guggino (Mandolin/Vocals), Graham Sharp (Banjo/Vocals), Charles R. Humphrey III (Bass/Vocals) and Nicky Sanders (Fiddle/Vocals). Before being nominated for two International Bluegrass Music awards in 2008 (including Album of the Year, ”Lovin’ Pretty Women"), the Rangers were named ’Emerging Artist of the Year’ in 2006 at the IBMA awards ceremony in Nashville, TN.

The group has been regularly featured on the Grand Ole Opry, as well as major U.S. Bluegrass and Americana music festivals such as MerleFest, Telluride, Grey Fox, DelFest and RockyGrass. The Rangers' willingness to bring Bluegrass to music-lovers worldwide has taken Steep Canyon to festivals in Sweden, Ireland, Germany and Canada. The group also regularly performs at Rock & Roll venues on the U.S. jam-band circuit.
