Dr. BLT is a singer/songwriter whose day job is that of a clinical psychologist and university instructor. While born in the mid-west and firmly grounded in country music, his music is genre-busting, ranging from old school country to modern rock and even "hick" hop."
Dr. BLT, aka Dr. Bruce L. Thiessen, was born in Steinbach, Manitoba and raised in various places in the United Sates and Canada, mostly in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

He now resides in Bakersfield, California where he is at the forefront of a Bakersfield sound revival, the epicenter being KWMR in Marin County.

Dr. BLT is most known for critical acclaim, nation-wide airplay, a cameo on and top hit MTV Video Music Award nominated music video for "Short Skirt/Long Jacket," by a band called Cake.
He is also known for pioneering a Bakersfield-sound-grounded new movement in music known as nu bako sound or Kccrock (Kern County country rock).

Dr. BLT was once called "The world's fastest songwriter," by Danielle Belton, a Bakersfield Californian entertainment writer. As a result, some of his songs are a bit lacking in terms of production polish. But that doesn't stop him from continuing to be relevant on the modern music front.

His song, Neil Young (Have You Forgotten) was named the #8 Best Rock Record of 2006 by Blogcritic Al Barger, and throughout the 2000's, he's had songs appear near the very top of internet charts following the songs that are most heavily downloaded.

Dr. BLT does an advice column for musicians in distress known as Ask the Rock Doc: Sound advice for a song, and also reviews CDs and interviews artists, mostly for Phantom Tollbooth:
